The Attenu8® system, offered by Proteus Waterproofing, is a comprehensive Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) designed for flat roofs. It functions as a blue roof solution that temporarily stores and attenuates stormwater runoff, preventing downstream flooding while integrating seamlessly with green or bio-diverse roof finishes. Incorporating patented ACO blue roof technology, the system features a unique structural drainage and overflow layer that sets it apart from competitors. Constructed primarily from recycled polypropylene modules and stainless steel components, the system creates a structural void on the roof to hold rainwater, releasing it at a controlled rate through specialised flow restrictors. Key elements include attenuation cells (modular blocks for water storage with high porosity up to 95% and compressive strength of 800 kN/m²), flow control devices (comprising restrictors, overflow mechanisms, and outlet raising rings to manage discharge rates as low as 0.07 l/s), diffuser/access chambers for maintenance and inlet diffusion, protection and filtration layers for durability and sediment control, and optional lite attenuation layers for lower-load applications. Installation follows a sequential process tailored to inverted, warm, or uninsulated roofs, starting
with waterproofing, adding insulation if needed, layering cells and membranes, securing tapes for watertight seals, and finishing with green roofs, paving, or ballast. The system complies with UK standards such as BS 6229:2018, BS EN 12056:3 2000, BS 8217, and BS 8000, ensuring professional application and longevity.
